Halwa is the Indian version of pudding that has a lot of varieties. Halwa is a traditional Indian dessert which is mostly served in festival meals and also during Navratri (Ashtami). And it also mostly served as prasad in temples and gurudwara. Traditionally Halwa is served with poori. Halwa-Poori is a deadly combination that can give you a blast of flavors. Halwa is loved by people of all age groups be it, adults or Kids.

Halwa is a sweet dish full of dry fruits. It is a quick and simple recipe. It hardly took 15 minutes to cook. Halwa and Rice-Kheer is the most common Indian dessert that is served in every festive season.

Here I am going to share my mom’s special recipe of ‘Makki Ke Atte ka Halwa’. The taste of maize flour halwa is a bit similar to the Moong Daal Halwa. We will share the Moong daal halwa recipe soon on this blog.

For making Maize flour Halwa, we are using that same flour we used to make a Makki ki roti. It’s a unique and different type of sweet dish that most people afraid to cook at home. But I want to tell you, “Makki Ke Atte Ka Halwa” is so yummy and tasty. You should definitely try this Makki Ke Atte Ka Halwa recipe at home.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Maize Flour
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • cup Desi Ghee
  • 2 elaichi (Cardamom)
  • 5-6 Chopped Almonds

Instructions

  • Heat a pan and to add ⅓ cup of desi ghee.
  • When desi ghee is all melted then add 1 cup of Maize flour.
  • Stir continuously on low-medium flame.
  • After 7-8 minutes, it changes the color into brown.
  • Once the color of flour changes, Now, it's time to add water in flour.
  • Then add elaichi (cardamom) in it.
  • Stir it on low flame.
  • Add ½ cup of sugar in the pan.
  • Mix it well, and lastly, add chopped almonds on it.
  • Now, Maize Flour Halwa is ready to serve.

These are the basic ingredients for Maize Flour Halwa recipe. For making Makki Ke Atte Ka halwa recipe, we only need these few ingredients. But make sure that you use only Desi Ghee in this halwa recipe as desi ghee gives a great flavor and also has health benefits. You can also add more dry fruits in it but I personally don’t like any other dry fruits other than almonds in the Maize Flour Halwa recipe.

How to make Makki Ke Atte Ka Halwa step by step with photos

Notes:

  • Keep in mind that you should always cook Makki Ka Halwa on low-medium flame.
  • When you add flour in ghee then you should stir it continuously until the ghee and flour mix together and changes the color into brown.
  • To avoid lumps don’t stop stirring after adding maize flour in Desi Ghee.
