Appe is an easy and quick recipe which we can have in breakfast or evening snack. This recipe basically comes from South India. Different names are given by different states of India. In Tamil, Appe is called Paniyaram, Paddu in Karnataka. This Appe is made in a special pan that has small cavities in it. This pan is known as ‘Appam Maker’ which is easily available in the market with varieties of 7, 9, 12 cavities. This is the most simple recipe that hardly takes 10 minutes to cook.
Different types of batter are used to make Appe. Some have used Rice or Urad daal or Rava (Sooji or Semolina). But Rice or Urad daal take time in soaking. If you want to make instant Appe for surprise guests or if you ever getting late for office or college then you can make that instant Rava Appe, this recipe is helpful for you.
Here I am going to share a recipe of Rava appe. For making Rava Appe just take a 1 cup of Sooji (Rava, semolina), half cup of yogurt (curd), veggies (any vegetable you can add in the batter), 1 packet of Eno. Mix all ingredients but you add Eno at last, this will gives you a fluffiness in appe. Then pour a little oil, Rava batter in each cavity with the help of a spoon and cover the pan for 4-5 minutes to take time to cook in the steam and flip the other side with the help of a stick or spoon. When both sides turn golden brown then Appe is ready or you can also temper appe with mustard seeds and curry leaves.
For tempering of Appe you just need to heat a pan add 1-2 tbsp of oil and add mustard or Curry leaves in it when curry leaves is fried in oil then add cooked appe in it. This tempering is totally optional if you want then temper it this will enhance the flavor of Appe. Healthy and Delicious Appam is ready to serve with Coconut Chutney or Green (coriander) Chutney.
