Matar Pulao is the easiest and most loved North Indian Pulao recipe that mostly made in the winter season. Matar is the Hindi meaning of Peas. Pea Rice recipes are mostly served in lunch with Raita (Curd), Indian curry or lentils. This Matar Pulao Recipe is a quick recipe, there is no need to chop veggies or any special spices used in the Matar Pulao. So, you can make this recipe whenever you getting late for making office lunch or any surprise guests arrive in your house at lunchtime that Matar Pulao is helpful for you in this type of situation.
In Matar Pulao you should always use good quality of rice that gives more flavor and delicious aromatic pulao. I always use Basmati Rice in any rice related dishes. The taste and texture of Basmati rice are good as compared to other varieties of rice.
This Matar pulao recipe is the most common recipe of my house, sometimes we just crave to eat pulao in the evening so at that time my mom adds some more veggies and some soya chunks in the pulao. It seems like a tasty and healthy snack for evening cravings.
Here I am sharing Matar Pulao Recipe, you can also use frozen peas in this pulao but here I am using fresh peas. Fresh peas gives little sweetness than frozen peas. In the northern side of India, fresh peas are available in the market only in winter otherwise frozen peas are available all around the year. So I preferred fresh peas in winter season.
Matar Pulao Recipe mostly served with curd (Dahi) or raita, Shahi Paneer, or any Indian curry or gravy. Matar Pulao with curd is my personal favorite combination. In this Pulao recipe, if you use 1 glass of rice then add 2 glass of water, it doubles the quantity of water in pulao, 1 cup of peas and some herbs and spices used in the Matar Pulao Recipe. - Pressure Cooker
Ingredients
- 1 glass Basmati Rice
- 1 cup Matar (Peas)
- 1 Sliced Onion
- 1 Bay Leaf
- ½ tbsp Red Chilli Powder
- Salt (as per taste)
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- ½ tbsp Cumin Seeds
- 2 cloves
Instructions
- Firstly, Wash and clean Basmati Rice properly.
- Then heat oil in the pressure cooker.
- Add ½ tbsp of cumin, Cinnamon, 2 cloves, and 1 bay leaf in the pressure cooker.
- Add 1 sliced onion in the cooker. Mix it well.
- Now, add 1 cup of peas in the cooker. Mix and cook it well.
- When peas are cooked then add ½ tbsp of red chilli powder and salt (as per taste) in the pressure cooker.
- Add washed Basmati Rice in the pressure cooker.
- Mix it very well for 5-7 minutes.
- Then add 2 glass of water in a pressure cooker.
- Now, wait for 1 whistle of the pressure cooker.
- After 1 whistle, open it immediately.
- Matar Pulav is now ready to serve with raita or curd.
How To Make Matar Pulao Recipe Step By Step With Photos:
- Firstly, Wash and clean Basmati Rice properly.

- Add ½ tbsp of cumin, Cinnamon, 2 cloves, and 1 bay leaf in the pressure cooker.
- Add 1 cup of sliced onion in the cooker. Mix it well.
- Now, add 1 cup of peas in the cooker. Mix and cook it well.
- When peas are cooked then add ½ tbsp of red chilli powder and salt (as per taste) in the pressure cooker.
- Add washed Basmati Rice in the pressure cooker.
- Mix it very well for 5-7 minutes.
