Gatte ki sabzi is quite popular in Rajasthani cuisine. Gatte Ki Sabzi is also made in Punjab, Haryana and other neighboring states of Rajasthan. Gatte is the main part of this recipe, which is made up of besan. As we know that Besan is also beneficial for Diabetic patients and it is also rich in protein. Some health-conscious people prefer ‘Besan Ka Chilla’ at breakfast because besan is rich in protein, Vitamin B1 and also in other micro-nutrients that reduce fatigue and gives energy all-around the day.
But here I am talking about Gatte ki Sabzi in Punjabi style. I am going to share a simple and easy recipe for ‘Gatte Ki Sabzi’. In this recipe, no spicy masalas or curd is used. There is a lot of ways to cook Gatte ki Sabzi. Some people are also use fried Gatte and some are using curd in a gatte curry.
For making Gatte Ki Sabzi recipe, the first important step is to make a Gatte. Take gram flour (Besan) in a bowl and make a thick consistency dough then roll dough in a long cylindrical shape and boil it. At last, cut it in small cubic shape. Gatte is ready.
For making Gatte soft add some oil in the besan, it makes Gatte soft. Also reserve the boiling water of Gatte that we will use in making the curry.

Gatte Ki Sabzi
Ingredients
- 150 gram Gram Flour (Besan)
- 1 cup Chopped Spring Onion
- ½ tbsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
- 1 Chopped Tomato
- ½ tbsp Garlic Paste
- ½ tbsp Ginger Paste
- ½ tbsp Chopped Fresh Coriander Leaves
- ½ tbsp Kasturi Methi
- 1 tbsp Turmeric Powder
- ½ tbsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander Powder (Dhania Powder)
- Salt (As per Taste)
Instructions
Method of Making Besan Ke Gatte
- Take ⅓ cup of gram flour (Besan) in a bowl and Add ½ tbsp of red chili powder, ½ tbsp of coriander powder, kasturi methi, coriander leaves, salt (as per taste) and little oil in it.
- Mix all ingredients together and add 3-4 tbsp of water in a bowl.
- Make a thick consistency dough.
- Now, divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll it into a long cylindrical shape with the help of palm or fingers.
- Heat water in a pan and gently put Gatte in hot boiling water.
- Let it boil for 5-7 minutes.
- After that kept aside boiled Gatte in a tray or plate and reserve boiled water of Gatte.
- Cut it into small cubic shapes with the help of a knife. Gatte is now ready.
Method of making Gatte Curry
- Heat a pan and add 1-2 tbsp of vegetable oil in it.
- Add ½ tbsp of Cumin Seeds, Ginger-Garlic Paste. Mix it.
- Add spring onion into the pan.
- After 1-2 minutes add 1 chopped Tomato in the pan.
- Add ½ tbsp of red chili powder, ½ tbsp of coriander powder, Kasturi Methi and salt (as per taste).
- Then add Gatte in the masala.
- Mix it on low-medium flame for 5-7 minutes.
- When Gatte is totally mixed with masala then add that boiled water which reserves for Gatte curry.
- Boil it until Gatte is completely observed and mix in Curry.
- Lastly, garnish Gatte Ki Curry with fresh coriander leaves and serve it with Chapati (Roti) or Parantha.
How to Make Gatte Ki Sabzi Step By Step with Photo
Method of making Besan Ke Gatte
- Take 150 gm of gram flour (Besan) in a bowl and Add ½ tbsp of red chili powder, ½ tbsp of coriander powder, Kasturi methi, coriander leaves (optional), salt (as per taste) and little oil in it.
- Mix all ingredients together and add 3-4 tbsp of water in a bowl. Do not add much water. We need thick dough.
- Make a thick consistency dough. Check photos below for getting an idea.
- Now, divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll it into a long cylindrical shape with the help of palm or fingers.
- Heat water in a pan and gently put Gatte in hot boiling water.
- Let it boil for 5-7 minutes.
- After that keep aside the boiled Gatte in a tray or plate and reserve boiled water of that we just used boiling Gatte.
- Cut it into small cubic shapes with the help of a knife. Gatte is now ready.
