Kala chana is a variety of darker colour chickpeas, this is generally popular in north India. It is a healthy Punjabi recipe, full of nutrients with fewer calories. For vegetarians, it is the best source of protein,there are very few options for vegetarians with full of proteins. This kala[black] chana complete the deficiency of protein in our diet. This recipe is very easy to prepare with commonly used ingredients in the kitchen. Kala chana recipe is served with chapati[roti], steamed rice/jeera rice, kulcha, Tikki whatever you like, we can also make a chana chaat or chana soup. But today I am going to share a recipe of thin curry Kala Chana.
Before preparing the curry it is highly compulsive to soak kala[black] chana in pressure cooker overnight. Next morning, add some baking soda for making a soft chana and put on high flame. And then make a curry masala of chana. This curry is made up of some simple ingredients like onions, garlic, tomatoes, and some masalas. The water of boiled chana is used to make a thin curry.

Ingredients
- 250 gm Kala Chana/black chickpeas (soaked overnight)
- 1/2 tbsp Baking soda
- 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
- 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds(jeera)
- 3 Onions(finely chopped)
- 2 Tomatoes(finely chopped)
- 1 Chopped green chilli
- 5-6 Garlic cloves (chopped)
- 1 Bay leaf
- 1/2 tbsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Red chilli powder
- Salt(as per your taste)
Instructions
- Take a 250gm of Kala Chana and soak in enough water overnight
- Next morning add ½ tsp of baking soda,½ tsp of salt, put on high flame and wait for 2 whistles
- Take a pan to add 2 tsp of vegetable oil
- Add ½ tsp cumin seeds in it
- Add 3 chopped onions, green chilli, garlic in the pan and mix it
- Saute the onions until it changes the color into golden brown
- Add 2 chopped tomatoes, mix it well
- Now add a ½ tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of chilli powder, salt as per your taste
- After mixing the masala then add a bay leave in it
- Leave the masala for 2-3 minutes on medium flame
- Add boiled Kala Chana into the pan
- Add garam masala in it and mix well for 4-5 minute
- Add Kala Chana Water into the pan, mix it and leave the pan on medium flame until water is boiling
- Now, your Kala Chana is ready to serve. You can serve this recipe chapatti[roti], boiled rice/jeera rice, Tikki, kulcha whatever to like.
